The initial Aerial Port operation was on the old Buu-son 3500 ft. Japanese/French PSP airstrip on the Southeast side of the base near the main gate leading to Thap Cham. Daily shuttle of C-123 and C-130 cargo/PAX aircraft operated in country from Tan Son Nhut to Da Nang with stops in between at major airbases. Army C-7A "Caribou" aircraft as well as VNAF air elements also utilized this aerial port operation. Personnel either on official travel or R&R in-country or out-of-country travel departed from this location. Air Vietnam also used this port for civil aviation.
