We had a Catholic and Protestant chaplain assigned to the base that arrived early with initial Gray Eagle personnel. Services were initially held in the open air or under a tent during inclement weather. When the Batson Hall mess hall was completed, services were temporarily held there until a small chapel could be constructed adjacent to the inflatable warehouse storage bubble/movie theater area. The chaplains were very interactive with base personnel and units; and they maintained a close relationship with Vietnamese Christian churches and Buddhist elements in the local Phan Rang area.
